Welcome to Dirk Hartog Island

Island News
We are now in the last three months of the season 2008.
In the last week our fishing guide, Ash left the island to go back to university. We all want to thank Ash for his great work and hope to welcome him back next year.
With Tom, our english chef leaving, Tory took back over the kitchen, until we find someone new.
Allowing additional time to explore the island by 4WD is an absoloute must, with some awesome land based fishing in the north, secluded camping spots and amazing coastlines to discover. Why not take a day trip north to Cape Inscription, or have a picnic lunch at surf point. For our homestead guests, be welcomed home each evening with delicious gourmet meals layed out on the table by our chef Tom.
With so much to explore, discover and learn. . . . . what are you waiting for?!!
The fish are biting, the dolphins are dancing and the dugongs haven't gone anywhere! So whether it be for one of our 'Island Interlude' day trips, some good old fashioned camping, or a catered stay in our beautiful homestead, we look forward to seeing you soon, on Dirk Hartog Island.

The last couple of months have brought some great fishing to the island once again with plenty of pink snapper, baldchin groper, coral trout, yellowfin tuna (always makes for a great meal of sashimi for our homestead guests), red emperor and spanish mackeral being caught.

A little bit about Dirk Hartog Island...
Dirk Hartog Island is one of Australia's most unique and remote eco-tourism holiday destinations.
Located in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area of the West Australian coast, the island's pristine ecosystem is home to some of the most amazing animals and scenery that Australia, and indeed the world, has to offer. The island boasts 3 rare bird species including the black and white wren, ancient fossilized coral reefs, several threatened reptile species, the biggest loggerhead turtle nesting ground in the south east indian basin and access to one eighth of the world's dugong population.
Dirk Hartog Island is Western Australia's largest island and has a unique place within Australia's history, as it is the site of the first recorded European landing on Australian soil, in 1616 by the island's namesake Dutch captain Dirk Hartog.
Dirk Hartog Island Homestead offers guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy the island's isolation and wilderness while taking advantage of the exceptional food and hospitality on offer. The homestead offers a range of activities and tours to suit all guests and hosts Kieran and Tory, along with their staff, are dedicated to making sure that guests enjoy an individually tailored Dirk Hartog Island holiday, from fishing and 4WDing to snorkeling and lazy drinks on the pristine beaches.
